Rio Gavin Ferdinand (born 7 November 1978) is an English footballer. He plays at center back for Manchester United in the Premier League and national team football for England. He has collected 81 caps for England in total, and has been a member of three FIFA World Cup squad.

Known for his calmness on the ball in a defensive position, [4] Ferdinand started his football career playing for various youth teams, finally settled at West Ham United where he progressed through the youth ranks and made his professional debut in the Premier League in 1996. He became a fan favorite, won the 'Hammer of the Year' in the following season. He got the first senior international cap in the match against Cameroon in 1997, a record as the youngest defender to play for England at the time.
